How to make it

  • Place one shot of absinthe in a lovely glass.
  • Place slotted absinthe spoon over top of glass.
  • Place one sugar cube atop the spoon.
  • Pour ice water over sugar cube,slowly.
  • This will cloud the drink giving it an opalescence,and allowing the flavours and herbal aromas to blossom.
  • This is thought to have a aura of illicitness, mysterious,and mind altering,coined as everyting from an aphrodisiac to a poison...perhaps producing a lucid drunkenness,a painkiller,if you will.
  • Now if you want death in the afternoon,one could do as Hemingway and pour one jigger of absinthe into a Champagne flute,add chilled Champagne until it developes the louche and then drink four to five of these very slowly.
  • ~but~
  • Surely...one would not think that the 'holy trinity'...Wormwood,Anise,and Fennel would make one crazy,a man,a ferocious beast...nor,a martyr of a woman...a menaces to the future of the country...Ahh! I think not!
