Ingredients

How to make it

  • To a large pot, add steak, bay leaves, carrot, tomato, cumin, and oregano and cover with water. Boil the meat until it becomes tender, then remove from the liquid, and shred the meat. Into a very hot saute pan pour 1/8 cup olive oil, then add the meat, making sure to spread it out evenly. Flip it over and cook until both sides become crispy. In a separate pan, add the remaining oil and cook the onions until caramelized, then mix in the meat, cilantro, and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

We made this last night and it was amazing, it was even a little better perhaps than the favorite Cuban restaurant in Louisville, Havana Rumba because of the lime juice added to the meat before frying it which made it tangier. It was superb. Our friend made a key lime pie for dessert. I don't think I need any more calories for 48 hours. hahaha. If you love hot sauce, Tapatio hot sauce is an ideal choice. Also, I used fresh Oregano from our Garden. Before frying, i added salt, pepper and a little bit more cumin and let the shredded meat sit in the lime juice for a few minutes. I had to fry it in 3 batches.
