How to make it

  • These are the most important instructions
  • With the round cake:
  • Cut the cake in half
  • Cut each half in half again but make one part a little larger than the other
  • You will now have 4 sections
  • Curve the sides together to form a butterfly shape
  • OR
  • simply cut the cake in half and curve the two halves together to form a butterfly wind shape.
  • If desired use a Twinkie for the middle section
  • Decorate as desired
  • For the 9 x 13 cake
  • Cut off a rectangular portion from the top of the cake and reserve for the middle section of the butterfly
  • Cut the remaining cake in half and then cut each half gain
  • Form the halves around the center rectangular piece to shape the butterfly
  • For all cakes:
  • Frost cooled cake as desired
  • Use thin licorice sticks as the antenna, gum drops or other candies for the colored spots on the wings and so on.
  • One can get very imaginative with the colors of the frosting and the decorative

    Another simple way of making a butterfly cake is to cut a round cake in half and put the two round layer sides together to form a butterfly. Like this )( then decorate using two licorice ropes as antennas.

    I used my favorite chocolate cake recipe for that butterfly cake
    But carrot cake, yellow cake, white cake etc are wonderful choices too.As you said, it's easy and really simple!
