Ingredients

How to make it

  • In a medium saucepan, combine milk, water, sugar, salt and cinnamon. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat, stirring frequently. (Takes about 15 minutes.)
  • In a separate bowl, beat eggs. Add vanilla and cubed butter into eggs and set aside.
  • Slowly stir in the farina and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat and *slowly* stir in the eggs, vanilla, and butter mixture. Return to heat and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
  • In the winter, serve as a hot mush.
  • In the summer, pour into a buttered loaf pan, cover and refrigerate. Once chilled, serve with whipped cream and fruit or berries.

When my step-mother was visiting her relatives in Alaska when I was a young girl I was left in charge of preparing my Dad's meals.I knew that Dad pretty much liked the same old thing, but me being young and adventurous wanted to surprise him one morning, and made him 'mush' Him being born and raised in the country, living with Grandad and Grandma during the depression,he was served what they had and was darn lucky to have that, but as he grew to be a man he flatly refused to eat what he called "That blankety blank mush".I learned my lesson that day...don't try feeding a man variety, when he is accustom to the the same o' same o'.
I personally like heated cereals year round.
Your recipe placed was a very nice one...reminded me of home as a kid.
    Thank-you
    Kind Regards

That's a good point. When it's hot outside, pour the farina into a lightly buttered loaf pan, cover with plastic, and let it chill overnight. In the morning serve it with berries or fruit slices, and whip cream.
