Berta’s Bread Pudding
From webdude 11 years agoIngredients
- 5 slices day-old bread shopping list
- 2 TBS butter shopping list
- 1/2 cup raisins shopping list
- 1/4 tsp salt shopping list
- 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 3 eggs, beaten shopping list
- 3 cups milk, scalded shopping list
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon shopping list
How to make it
- Toast bread and spread with the 2 TBS butter while still hot. Arrange 1 layer of toast in a buttered baking pan (10 1/2 x 6 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches). Sprinkle with raisins. Arrange second layer of toast over raisins.
- Stir the salt and all but 2 TBS of the sugar into the eggs. Add scalded milk and stir to mix well. Pour over the toast and allow to stand for 10 minutes. Press toast down into milk mixture lightly with a fork occasionally so that toast soaks up most of the milk mixture.
- Mix cinnamon with remaining 2 TBS sugar and sprinkle over top. Place pan directly on oven rack. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F.) for about 25 minutes until a pointed knife inserted in center comes out clean and top is an appetizing brown. Serve warm or cold either plain or with a little cream.
