How to make it

  • Heat the oven to 400F
  • Combine 2 1/2 cups of the flour, the baking powder, and salt, pepper, sugar, in a large bowl.
  • Add the cream cheese and cheddar cheese and toss gently with a fork until combined.
  • Add the chives and toss gently mix with a fork until combined.
  • Combine egg and milk and gently stir into dry ingredients with a fork to form a soft dough.
  • One may need to add a bit more flour for a soft dough
  • Divide the dough in half.
  • On a floured surface, gently form each half into a circle about 6 inches across and one inch thick
  • Cut each into 6 wedges with a sharp knife but don't cut all the way through
  • Carefully place each scone circle on greased baking sheet.
  • Brush tops with an egg wash or brush with some cream
  • Bake in a preheated 400F oven, middle rack,20 to 25 minutes or golden
  • Cool to warm , cut through to divide and serve with jam and butter if desired
  • These freeze well and may be gently reheated in the micro
