How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 1. Sift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt into a mixing bowl.
  • 2. Cut in shortening.
  • 3. Stir in 1 1/4 c. of the walnuts.
  • 4. Add egg, milk, and vanilla.
  • 5. Mix just until ingredients are blended.
  • 6. Pour into a greased and floured 9X5 inch loaf pan. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 c. walnuts over the top.
  • 7. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes
  • 8. Let rest in pan for 10 minutes and then turn out onto a rack to cool.
