Victorian Mulled Wine

- 120g4oz Sugar shopping list
- 4 Sticks cinnamon shopping list
- 5cm/2in piece fresh Ginger - peeled and sliced shopping list
- Small handful cloves - or to taste shopping list
- 1 Orange - zest only shopping list
- 1.5 litres/3 pints Claret or Port Wine shopping list
- 2 Wine Glasses Water shopping list
How to make it
- Place two wine glasses of water, and the sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and orange zest into a saucepan;
- Bring the mixture to the boil, reduce the heat to its low and simmer, stirring regularly, for some 15 to 20 minutes or so until the mixture has reduced to form a thick syrup;
- Add the alcohol and stir well to combine everything;
- Increase the heat and cook until the mixture is piping hot, but not boiling;
- Serve immediately in glasses;
- Optional: You can, if wish, strain the mixture before serving.
