Homemade Breadcrumbs

- • 1 loaf firm-textured white or whole wheat bread. shopping list
- • ½ cup warm butter. shopping list
- • Salt & freshly ground black pepper. shopping list
- • Any spices you want to add. shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Heat your oven to 300 F (150 C).
- 2. Use a food processor or blender to coarsely crumb the bread evenly.
- 3. Spread evenly on a rimmed cookie sheet and put in the oven for 10-15 minutes to dry. Do not allow to burn.
- 4. Remove crumbs from the oven and allow to cool.
- 5. Run through the food processor again.
- 6. Crumbs should not be like sand. Leave some texture-don't over-process.
- 7. Melt butter in a large pan (add any spices you’ve decided to use) and add crumbs and salt and pepper.
- 8. Stir until evenly coated.
- 9. Continue stirring over medium heat until the crumbs sound like sand when they hit the bottom of the pan.
- 10. Cool thoroughly.
- 11. Store in heavy duty plastic bags with zipper seals.
- 12. Don't put them in the refrigerator-they won't keep.
- 13. Store them in a cabinet for up to six months.
