Stove Top Apple Butter

- 2 pounds apples - about 7-8 apples depending on size, I used a combination of Golden Delicious and Rome varieties shopping list
- 1 cup apple cider shopping list
- ¾ cup sugar shopping list
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon shopping list
- ⅛ teaspoon allspice shopping list
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice shopping list
- 1 tablespoon vanilla shopping list
How to make it
- Peel, core and cut apples into small pieces, add to a heavy saucepan
- Add apple cider, bring to boil and reduce heat. Simmer 20 minutes
- Add remaining ingredients, stir to combine, return to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes or until thick and apples are tender
- Cool slightly
- Mash apples with a potato masher, if you want it smoother. Or add apple butter to food processor and blend until desired consistency
- Store in airtight container in refrigerator
