Seared Ahi (yellowfin)

- For the fish: shopping list
- • Four 6 oz. (170 g) fresh boneless and skinless Ahi fillets or steaks, at least ½ in. (1.25 cm) thick. A bit thicker is better. shopping list
- For the spices: shopping list
- • 1 Tbs. light soy sauce. shopping list
- • ¼ tsp. finely minced ginger. shopping list
- • 1 tsp. sake. shopping list
- • 1 tsp. olive oil. shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Trim the fillets or steaks until you have only the choice parts left and lay them on a platter to come to room temp.
- 2. Get your cast iron skillet or your BBQ hot. Not medium but hot. If your using a skillet spray or brush it with a non stick oil. Same for your BBQ grill.
- 3. If using a BBQ grill scatter a few wood chips over the fire and put the cooking grill in place.
- 4. Make sure the spice ingredients are VERY well combined and brush them on both sides of the fillets or steaks.
- 5. Put the fillets or steaks in the skillet or on the BBQ and fry or grill for 1 to 1½ minute per side. If your fire is right they should sear but not cook through.
- 6. Remove to a serving platter and serve immediately with your choice of rice and veggies.
