How to make it

  • Season the meat with Salt and Pepper.
  • Heat the oil in a deep Dutch Oven
  • Add the seasoned beef and braise until a deep golden color
  • Place Beef broth, water, Beer & Worcestershire Sauce in the slow cooker.
  • Add the garlic, onions and thyme.
  • Place the braised Beef into the slow cooker and add the onions on top.
  • Cook on High for 6 - 8 hours until tender.
  • Take the beef out of the slow cooker
  • Allow to cool and slice moderately thin
  • Skim the fat from the broth
  • Preheat the oven to 350ยบ
  • Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil
  • Slice the baguette into 4 - 6 pieces then slice in half, lengthwise
  • Place two pieces of cheese on each baguette
  • Add two slices of beef plus some of the onions, to each
  • Place the top of the baguette on top
  • Bake in oven for approximately 5 minutes
  • Serve with 1 cup of broth in ramekins for dipping

    Not the way I'd do it as a first choice but no doubt the results would be seriously delicious. Also, it's easy and pretty well full-prof. I posted a French Dip recipe up here somewhere. Have a look if you want a rare French Dip sandi.
