From recipediva 17 years agoIngredients
- Streusel Mix until crumbly, reserve 2 cups for topping: shopping list
- 2 cups unsifted flour shopping list
- 3/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar shopping list
- 1 egg beaten shopping list
- 1/2 cup COLD butter or margarine ( I only use butter) shopping list
- 3/4 cup chopped walnuts, pecans or macadamia nuts shopping list
- Optional: for reserved topping I added coconut shopping list
- Caramel: shopping list
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk, (not evaporated) shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine (I use butter) shopping list
- 24 caramels shopping list
How to make it
- Combine ingredients in heavy saucepan over low heat for the caramel mixture.
- Preheat oven to 350. If using a glass dish set the temp at 325 degrees.
- Grease pan 9x13 or 8x8. I use a 8x8 pan because I like a thick layer of caramel.
- After combining streusel and reserving the 2 cups, pat rest of crumb into pan and bake 15 minutes. DO NOT OVER BAKE. (I usually bake 9-10 minutes I like my crust less hard)
- When done pour the caramel mixture over baked bottom. Sprinkle on reserved topping. Bake 20 more minutes or until bubbly.
- Store loosely covered at room temp.
- Variation: for chocolate mixture add 2 ounces of chocolate to the caramel mixture.
- If you make these in a 9x13 pan these will be more crispy and chewy
- if you make these in 8x8 pan thicker they will be gooey and creamy and full of soft carmel. Trust me you will love the thick version!!
