  • Melt the butter in a wide, thick-bottomed sauce pan. Add the flour and salt and stir until smooth. Add the brown sugar and blend well. Cook over medium heat until the mixture bubbles and turns light brown (at least 5 minutes), stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add the boiling water. Stir until well mixed. Return to the heat and bring to a boil stirring constantly until thick and smooth. Add the vanilla. For a large pudding double this recipe.
