Ingredients

How to make it

  • Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  • In another large bowl, cream together butter, shortening, and 1-1/2 C. sugar. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well. Gradually stir in flour mixture and mix well.
  • In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 C. sugar and cinnamon.
  • Roll dough into 1-1/2 inch balls. Roll the balls in the cinnamon/sugar mixture and place them 2 inches apart on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Bake 8 mins. or until the tops are crackly and just "set", but not too firm (they may seem undercooked, but will firm up as they cool). Cool the cookies a few minutes on the baking sheet, then remove them to a wire rack and cool completely.
  • Note: Both flours "work", but I find that bread flour makes thicker cookies in my oven. Every oven is different, so use whichever you have on hand or prefer. Enjoy!
