From tuilelaith 3 years agoIngredients
- One 6-ounce can tomato paste (16 ounces tomato sauce, note below) shopping list
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup shopping list
- 1/2 cup white vinegar, using 1/3 cup next time shopping list
- 1/4 cup water, used purified water, not sink water shopping list
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar shopping list
- 1 teaspoon Pink Himalayan Salt shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder shopping list
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk until smooth.
- 2. When the mixture comes to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring often. (NOTE: If using sauce, you will need to let this simmer for a long time. You want it to thicken up to a super thick ketchup. Tomato Paste, has been boiled down to this already, probably from the sauce.)
- 3. Remove the pan from the heat and cover until cool. Chill and store in a covered container.
- Makes 1 1/2 cups.

- Tomato Paste Conversions
- 3/8 cup tomato paste + ½ cup water = 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste yields ¾ cup (0r 6/8 th's)
- NOTE: So what I am reading here that one 6 ounce can of Paste = 2 cups of sauce, so 16 ounces. I think that is ONE can of sauce, normally!

- Converting Maple Sugar To Maple Syrup
- You can make maple syrup from maple sugar by adding water to the maple sugar. The blend rate for the usual density of maple syrup is to add 7 tablespoons or 3.7 ounces of water to one packed cup of maple sugar and the result will be one cup of maple syrup.

- 9 Natural Substitutes for Sugar
- https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/natural-sugar-substitutes#Why-eating-too-much-sugar-is-bad-for-you
- 1. Stevia, plant-based sweetener, The leaves of Stevia rebaudiana are packed with nutrients and phytochemicals, so it’s not surprising that the sweetener is linked to some health benefits
- 2. Xylitol, toxic to dogs, xylitol does not raise your blood sugar or insulin levels, lack of fructose
- 3. Erythritol, hard to get - expensive, does not seem to have the harmful effects that regular sugar does, does not raise blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, or triglyceride levels
- 4. Monk fruit sweetener, gets its sweetness from antioxidants, studies have found that monk-fruit-sweetened beverages have minimal influence on your daily calorie intake, blood glucose levels, and insulin levels, compared with sucrose-sweetened beverages
- 5. Yacon syrup, high content of fructooligosaccharides in yacon syrup offers a variety of health benefits
- "6–9. Natural sweeteners"
- 6. Coconut sugar, coconut sugar is still very high in calories, containing the same number of calories per serving as regular sugar
- 7. Honey, contains trace amounts of vitamins and minerals, as well as an abundance of beneficial antioxidants
- 8. Maple syrup, contains more antioxidants than honey, contains a decent amount of minerals, including calcium, potassium, iron, zinc, and manganese
- 9. Molasses, high iron, potassium, and calcium contents may benefit bone and heart health, consumption should be limited, as it’s still a form of sugar

- agave nectar may be the least healthy sweetener in the world, making regular sugar look healthy in comparison
- Bottom line
- Honey is the clear winner. But both honey and agave nectar are caloric sweeteners and offer little added nutritional value. Honey is better than agave nectar because it is:
- higher in antioxidants
- lower in fructose-content
- less processed
- has other health benefits

- Brown Rice Syrup: Good or Bad?
- brown rice syrup provides ample calories but virtually no essential nutrients.
- However, its high GI, lack of nutrients, and risk of arsenic contamination are significant downsides.
- Even if it is fructose-free, rice syrup seems mostly harmful.
