Ingredients
  • 1 9-inch unbaked pastry shell
  • FILLING:
  • 4 large baking apples, cored and sliced (peeled or unpeeled - your preference)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • TOPPING:
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 425.
  2. PREPARE FILLING:
  3. Combine apples, sugar, nutmeg and lemon juice in a bowl.
  4. Stir, making sure apples are well coated.
  5. Place into unbaked pastry shell.
  6. PREPARE TOPPING:
  7. Combine the sugar and flour in a mixing bowl.
  8. In a small saucepan, melt butter.
  9. Slowly add the sugar/flour mix until crumbly.
  10. COMBINE THE TWO:
  11. Sprinkle this topping mix over pie filling, covering to edges.
  12. Slide pie into brown paper bag.
  13. Fold open end closed twice, fastening with paper clips or staples.
  14. BAKE in 425 degree oven for 60 minutes.
  15. Split bag open, remove pie and cool on wire rack.
  16. Serve plain, with cheese or ice cream.
