How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 425.
  • PREPARE FILLING:
  • Combine apples, sugar, nutmeg and lemon juice in a bowl.
  • Stir, making sure apples are well coated.
  • Place into unbaked pastry shell.
  • PREPARE TOPPING:
  • Combine the sugar and flour in a mixing bowl.
  • In a small saucepan, melt butter.
  • Slowly add the sugar/flour mix until crumbly.
  • COMBINE THE TWO:
  • Sprinkle this topping mix over pie filling, covering to edges.
  • Slide pie into brown paper bag.
  • Fold open end closed twice, fastening with paper clips or staples.
  • BAKE in 425 degree oven for 60 minutes.
  • Split bag open, remove pie and cool on wire rack.
  • Serve plain, with cheese or ice cream.
