Curates Cheek Ham Recipe

Curates Cheek Ham Recipe
A recipe from an English church curate. He made this when his bishop came a-visiting. Very easy to fix, and delicious to eat. (To heck with the ham, give me a spoon and let me eat just the sauce!)

Ingredients
  • One pound of ham, in thick slices
  • 2/3 cup of brown sugar ( 1/3 if you use the Brown Sugar Splenda blend as I did)
  • 1 tablespoon of mustard powder
  • 2/3 cup of heavy cream
  • I had some dried apples on hand and chopped up about a quarter cup and added them to the casserole, but this is not in the original recipe and really did not make that much difference to the dish.

Directions
  1. Mix the brown sugar and mustard powder in a small bowl.
  2. Sprinkle a couple of tablespoons of the sugar/mustard mixture on a ham slice in a small casserole.
  3. Stack another slice of ham on top and repeat with the sugar/mustard mixture.
  4. Put the last of the sugar/mustard mixture on top of the last slice.
  5. Pour the cream over all.
  6. Bake covered in a 300 degree oven for 30 minutes. Remove cover and bake another 10 minutes.

This sounds wonderful - love the layering with the spices inbetween! And how can it be bad after being baked in cream? - delicous sounding...thank you!

Your right about the sauce, give me a spoon.
