These are good yet I'm concerned about calories; how many are in each heaping tablespoon full cookie?

Thank you for the posting; this recipe brings back warm childhood memories. I'm baking these Gluten Free as I write. I'll post the Alterations if they turn out well.

Just tried this recipe; I was appalled. I usually make oatmeal drop cookies by the recipe on the Quaker Oats box. They've always been perfect so this time I didn't bother to make a test cookie. When shortening melted the cookies ran together, making a thin, solid plank on the cookie sheet. I looked in my recipe file box for the backup copy I had made, from a previous Quaker Oats box. The main ingredients and proportions were the same except for shortening. The old version called for 3/4 cup shortening plus 1/4 cup water; this version calls for 2 sticks butter = 1 cup, with no water. I strongly suggest you try this recipe with only 1.5 sticks of butter and the water (you'll need the moisture). My Vanishing Oatmeal cookies did exactly that -- right into the garbage can! I repeated my endeavor using their previous recipe and got the usual perfect results.

I've made a lot of oatmeal cookies but these are by far the best. My son who is 25 and never baked cookies before baked a double batch for his workplace. Everyone loved them. The only change I make is using unsalted butter then adding the 1/2 teaspoon salt. I also use chocolate chips instead of raisins.

These are the worst oatmeal cookies I have ever had, I was totally ashamed to serve them to my Hubby!
Way to dry, and my guess is , one cup too many, of oats.
NEVER AGAIN!

@Cookie freak: Why did you use shortening? It clearly states butter. That's the reason why your cookies turned out badly. This is the recipe that comes from the box itself. You did something wrong... obviously.

@kaybob: Are you sure you did the recipe right? Everyone else, including myself, have cooked these correctly and they taste great.
