How to make it

  • Combine dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add remaining ingredients except boiling water then beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Remove and stir in boiling water then pour into two greased and floured cake pans.
  • Bake at 350 for 45 minutes then coo 10 minutes on rack.
  • Remove from pans and cool completely.
  • Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2-2/3 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Cream butter until softened in a small mixing bowl then add cocoa and blend well.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar alternately with milk and vanilla and beat well.
  • Spread on cake.
