Orange Craisin Butter Tart Squares Recipe
This is my twist on a basic butter tart recipe.

Ingredients
  • 1 stick of butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup flour + 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup plumped orange craisins or regular craisins
  • 1-2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped macadmia nuts, optional

Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°.
  2. In a bowl, cream butter until smooth.
  3. Add 1 cup of flour and sugar and blend until flour mixture is smooth.
  4. Transfer to a 9-inch square baking dish, spread evenly.
  5. Bake until lightly brown, just about 15 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and set aside.
  7. Keep the oven set at 350°.
  8. In a bowl, combine brown sugar, eggs, 2 tablespoons flour, vanilla, fresh orange juice, and baking powder.
  9. Mix thoroughly.
  10. Stir in craisins and nuts.
  11. Spread evenly over crust.
  12. Bake until golden, about 30 minutes.
  13. Let cool and cut into squares.
  14. Makes about 24 squares.
