Mulled apple crumble with vanilla crme fraiche

- For the filling shopping list
- 700g/about 4-5 Bramley apples, peeled, cored and thickly sliced shopping list
- 50g fructose sugar shopping list
- 1/4 tsp mixed spice shopping list
- 1 tsp cinnamon shopping list
- juice and zest 1 orange shopping list
- splash of calvados, brandy or cider, (optional) shopping list
- For the topping shopping list
- 100g wholemeal flour shopping list
- 85g butter, very cold and cut into cubes shopping list
- 3 tbsp fructose sugar shopping list
- 50g whole porridge oats shopping list
- For the vanilla creme fraiche shopping list
- 300g 4% fat crème fraiche shopping list
- 1 vanilla pod, seeds only shopping list
- 1 tsp fructose sugar, (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Heat oven to 180C. Place the apples, sugar, mixed spice, cinnamon, zest, juice, alcohol and three tablespoons of water in a large pan.
- Stir gently over a low heat until the sugar has melted and the apples begin to break down. Pour into a two-litre pie dish and leave to cool a little while you make the topping.
- Place the wholemeal flour and butter in a mixing bowl and rub together until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add the sugar and oats and mix through.
- Sprinkle over the apples, pressing down if necessary. Bake in the oven for 25 mins or until golden and crisp.
- For the vanilla crème fraiche, mix all the ingredients together. Serve dolloped on top of the crumble.
