How to make it

  • Combine flour with the egg, dash of salt, and as much water as kneaded to knead a smooth , loose dough.
  • Roll out on a floured board 1/4 in. thick
  • Cut out small circles.
  • Place a piece of apple in center of each circle
  • Fold over.Seal edges and roll in the palm of your hands.
  • Cook in large kettle with salted boiling water until they float to top.
  • Transfer to platter
  • Add bread crumbs to butter and fry for 1 minute.
  • Pour over dumplings
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar

    lor ate it and said...
    My father-in-law loves these but instead of apples we use sour cherries or plums. He says both fruits were plentiful in Poland when he was a young man. I am certain the apple filling is just as delicious!
