How to make it

  • Trim any fat from meat
  • Cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces
  • Heat oil in heavy skillet
  • Brown meat
  • Lower heat
  • Sprinkle salt over meat
  • Top with onion slices
  • Pour water over meat
  • Simmer, covered, for 50 -60 minutes or until tender
  • Check liquid; at end of cooking time there should be about 1 cup
  • Remove meat to a hot dish
  • Blend sour cream with flour and stir into skillet of juices and mix thoroughly
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste
  • Add ketchup at this point (optional)
  • Heat through and pour over meat
  • Serve very hot with boiled noodles or potatoes
