Anise Lemon Barbecue Sauce

Anise is a plant in the parsley family; its seeds have a sweet licorice flavor. Anise liqueur adds an intriguing flavor to this barbecue sauce, one that will have will have your guests asking for the secret ingredient.
Ingredients
- 2 cups tomato ketchup shopping list
- 1 cup chili sauce shopping list
- 1/2 cup anise liqueur (see note) shopping list
- 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup lemon juice shopping list
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce shopping list
How to make it
- 1.Combine ketchup, chili sauce, anise liqueur, dark brown sugar, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce in a saucepan. Heat thoroughly, stirring until well mixedl.
- 2.Use for hot dogs, hamburgers, spareribs, seafood and chicken.
- Makes about 4 1/2 cups.
- Note: Pastis, ouzo, anesone and anisette are some examples of anise liqueurs; some common brand names include Galliano and Pernod.
