Anise Lemon Barbecue Sauce Recipe
Anise is a plant in the parsley family; its seeds have a sweet licorice flavor. Anise liqueur adds an intriguing flavor to this barbecue sauce, one that will have will have your guests asking for the secret ingredient.

  • 2 cups tomato ketchup
  • 1 cup chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup anise liqueur (see note)
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Directions
  1. 1.Combine ketchup, chili sauce, anise liqueur, dark brown sugar, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce in a saucepan. Heat thoroughly, stirring until well mixedl.
  2. 2.Use for hot dogs, hamburgers, spareribs, seafood and chicken.
  3. Makes about 4 1/2 cups.
  4. Note: Pastis, ouzo, anesone and anisette are some examples of anise liqueurs; some common brand names include Galliano and Pernod.
