How to make it

  • Combine all-bran and salt.
  • Stir in boiling water, then buttermilk.
  • Cool to lukewarm.
  • Cream sugar and shortening.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
  • Stir this into bran mixture.
  • Combine flour, baking soda and 100% bran.
  • Add to creamed mixture.
  • Add raisins.
  • Stir just enough to dampen dry ingredients.
  • Store batter in fridge until ready to use, will keep for 4 weeks.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Fill greased tins 3/4 full.
  • Bale 20-25 minutes.
