If using Cherry Pie filling, I add a bit of Almond Flavoring before using on the cookies, but you can always change the flavor buy adding Lemon, Blueberry etc pie filling.

Ingredients
  • ¾ cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (21-oz) can Comstock® or Wilderness® More Fruit More Cherry Pie Filling

Directions
  1. 1. Preheat oven to 400 F. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla thoroughly, set aside.
  2. 2. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Combine the wet and dry ingredients and mix thoroughly; Chill the dough 1 hour.
  3. 3. Roll the dough out to a 1/8" thickness, cut into desired heart shape. On one half of cut cookies, using smaller heart shaped cutter, cut out center of cookie. Stack 2 cookies, leaving center void on top. Place on an un-greased cookie sheet.
  4. Top each cookie with a dollop of Cherry Filling into heart center. Bake for 15 minutes.
  5. Note: You can use ready-made refrigerator sugar cookie dough. Cut off roll as directed and roll dough out to 1/8" thickness and proceed with direction above.
