How to make it

  • Grease a 9 inch baking pan.
  • In a medium saucepan combine the water and maple syrup and bring to a boil. Boil one minute then pour into pan.
  • In a mixing bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt.
  • In another bowl cream the shortening then blend in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Add the flour mix to the creamed mix alternately with the milk to make a thick batter.
  • Carefully spoon batter over boiled maple syrup in pan then bake in a 350 degree oven for about 55-60 minutes or until cake springs back when touched.
  • Spoon hot syrup sauce over top of cake when serving. Great with ice cream!
