Moms Deviled Ham Spread Recipe

MOMS DEVILED HAM SPREAD Recipe
Mom has a collection of Gourmet magazines that rival my Dad's collection of National Geographic, I think. It must be 14 years worth of saved magazines. I'll admit she has fun looking through them. This is one of her favorite recipes and mine too.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups minced cooked ham (about 6 ounces)
  • 1/4 small habanero chili, or to taste, seeded and minced (wear rubber gloves)
  • Worcestershire sauce to taste
  • 2 tsp of sweet relish (mom's addition)
  • 1 tsp of honey (mom's addition)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • Accompaniment: celery boats and/or toast points

Directions
  1. In a bowl stir together ham, chili, Worcestershire sauce, just enough mayonnaise to bind ingredients, and salt and pepper to taste. Chill ham spread, covered, overnight.
  2. Serve spread with accompaniments.
  3. Mom added the sweet to counteract the hot and to give a little sweet salty flavor to the spread. I eat it on sandwiches, but it is best in celery. The crunch is wonderful.
