I found this recipe online (http://yumsugar.com/629606) and tried it. It worked out pretty well, but I think if I made it again, I would use less flour and less oatmeal in the topping.

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 lbs cooking apples, cored and sliced into wedges
  • optional: vanilla ice cream to serve a la mode
  • FILLING:
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 stick melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • TOPPING:
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1 stick butter, cut into small pieces and room temperature

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Place apple wedges in 9x13 glass baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, mix ingredients for filling, whisking until smooth.
  4. Evenly pour filling over apples.
  5. In a mixing bowl, mix ingredients for topping with fingers until it resembles a coarse, crumb-like mixture.
  6. Evenly sprinkle topping into baking dish.
  7. Bake for 60 minutes, or until apples are tender and crust is golden.
  8. Allow to cool completely.
  9. Optional: serve a la mode with vanilla ice cream.
