Geranium Cake - 1800s Recipe Recipe
Original Geranium Cake recipe as copied by my grandmother in a cook book from the 1800's

Ingredients
  • 1/2 teacupful butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cupfull water
  • 2 cupfulls flour
  • 1 teaspoonful eggs

Directions
  1. Stir one-half teacupfull butter to a cream with one cup sugar.
  2. Add by degrees
  3. Two Thirds cupfull water and two cupfulls flour which have sifter with one teaspoonful eggs
  4. Line a square tin with oiled paper over which place a layer of rose geranium leaves
  5. Pour the cake mixture over the leaves and bake (no time is indicated)
  6. Pull off leaves.
  7. Icing-
  8. Boil 1/3 teacupful water, 1 teacupful sugar for approx 10 mins or until it hardens in cold water
  9. Add three teaspoonful cream, beat until cool
