Overnight Coffee Cake

- 2/3 butter or margarine shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup brown sugar shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 2 cups flour shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking powder shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- 1 tsp. cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk* shopping list
- 1/2 cup brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg shopping list
How to make it
- Cream butter. Add sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Cream until light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time. Beat well after each addition.
- Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
- Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk and beat well. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9x13 inch pan.
- Combine the remaining brown sugar with walnuts, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle over the batter in pan. Refrigerate overnight.
- In the morning, bake at 350ºF for 45 minutes or until cake springs back when touched lightly in center.
- Save warm or cool.
- * a substitute for buttermilk--add 1 tbsp. lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup milk
