Aunt Anns Sugar Cookies Recipe
My grandmother's recipe that has been a family treat for over fifty years.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 to 3 1/2 cups general purpose flour

Directions
  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix sugar and shortening together in a large bowl.
  3. Stir until well blended.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla, beat well.
  5. Put flour in flour sifter and add in baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Add gradually to above mixture, mixing well and adding milk as needed to keep the mixture moist and well blended.
  7. Drop teaspoons full of cookie dough onto a greased cookie sheets
  8. keeping them spaced about 3 inches apart.
  9. Using a small juice glass with it's bottom greased and dipped into sugar, press down on each cookie to flatten.
  10. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until just very lightly browned.
  11. Remove from oven and tranfer cookies onto a cooling rack or double layer of paper towels to cool.
  12. Keep in a airtight container. If cookies become hard place a slice of fresh bread in the container of cookies over night to soften.
