Basic Rich White Sauce

This is a basic rich white sauce. So many times, this sauce will "make" a dish....makes it buttery, rich, and creamy. Great for creamy soups, vegetables, and many, many other dishes.
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter shopping list
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 2 cups light cream shopping list
- white pepper, black pepper, optional shopping list
- NOTE: Can substitue 1 cup of the cream with 1 cup chicken broth for chicken dishes such as Chicken Ala King, Chicken Pot Pie, or other favorite chicken dishes requiring a sauce. shopping list
How to make it
- Melt butter
- Add flour and salt, whisk
- Add cream, whisk
- Cook in saucepan until thick
- Microwave Method
- In Pyrex bowl, melt butter in microwave
- Remove from microwave
- Whisk in flour, salt
- Whisk in cream
- Return to microwave, stopping VERY often, and whisking until thickened
