Indonesian Fried Banana Fritters
From nlo209 16 years agoIngredients
- 6 small half-ripe bananas shopping list
- BATTER: shopping list
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour shopping list
- 2 tbsp. cornstarch shopping list
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1/2 cup water shopping list
How to make it
- Peel the bananas and cut cross-wise into 3 inch lengths--set aside.
- To make the batter; in a bowl sift together the flour, cornstarch, granulated sugar and salt. Gradually add the water, stirring constantly, until the batter is smooth and thick enough to lightly coat the back of a spoon. Set aside.
- Heat 1 1/2 inches of oil in a wok or deep saucepan to 375ºF on a deep-fryer thermometer. (I use a large electric frying pan).
- Add the bananas to the batter. Using tongs, lift out banana pieces, one at a time and allow the excess batter to drip off into the bowl, and carefully lower into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pan; allow the pieces to float freely. Deep-fry, turning often, until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain. Repeat with remaining pieces.
- Arrange the bananas on a warmed platter and dust with confectioners' sugar and cinnamon. Serve hot.

Can't beat these. We used to go to a small Asian cafe in Gulfport, MS and we couldn't leave until they brought us these. We would get up to leave and they would make us sit down until they were done!!!!! Unfortunately, Katrina got it.
