Raisin Griddle Cookies Recipe
My mother used to make these cookies when I was a young girl. They remain a family favorite to this day. They are quick and easy to make. Can be made in a iron skillet if you don't have a griddle.

Ingredients
  • 3 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cup raisins

Directions
  1. Sift dry ingredients together into bowl.
  2. Cut in shortening until mixture is mealy.
  3. Beat egg, add milk, and blend.
  4. Add egg mixture and raisins to flour mixture.
  5. Stir until all ingredients are moistened and dough holds together.
  6. Roll on lightly floured board to 1/4 inches thick.
  7. Cut with 2 inch round cutter.
  8. Heat griddle until a few drops of water dance on it.
  9. (Do not overheat griddle)
  10. Oil griddle lightly and place some cookies on it.
  11. As the bottoms become brown and tops become puffy.
  12. Turn them over and brown on other side.
  13. Serve warm. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

These are fabulous in a cast iron skillit.


I never heard of such a thing ... and they sound fantastic.


Love cookies, love most things that are made on a griddle - these will be great!


I used to make these when I was a kid. We called them Spider Cookies. Tasty!
