Gluten free spicy meatballs in tomato sauce

- For the meatballs shopping list
- 100 gms minced beef shopping list
- 1/2 medium onion - very finely chopped shopping list
- 1 garlic clove - finely chopped or crushed shopping list
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped spinach (I use frozen) shopping list
- spice to your taste - (I use large pinch chilli powder and 1/4 teaspoon jerk seasoning - this makes medium spicy meatballs.) shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
- 1/2 beaten egg shopping list
- olive or veg oil for frying shopping list
- For the Sauce shopping list
- 200gm tin chopped tomatoes shopping list
- 1/2 medium onion diced shopping list
- 1 clove garlic finely chopped shopping list
- pinch dried mixed herbs shopping list
- 1/2 glass red wine shopping list
- 100mls water shopping list
- splash balsamic wine (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Put all meatball ingredients in a mixing bowl and - using your hands - mix together, kneading until all ingredients are thoroughly combined
- break off pieces of the meat mixture and rolled into balls - should make 10 - 12 balls.
- Wash your hands thoroughly!
- Heat olive oil in a frying pan/skillet and add the meatballs turning them until they are browned on all sides.
- Meanwhile start the sauce - heat oil in a saucepan and add onions and garlic, saute for a couple of minutes.
- Add all other sauce ingredients and bring to the boil.
- Now pour some of the sauce onto the meatballs in the frying pan (to pick up all the juices) then return the lot to the saucepan.
- Cover and simmer for around 40 mins until the sauce has thickened to your liking.
