How to make it

  • combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl; stir in corn meal. Cool to lukewarm.
  • Soften yeast in warm water; beat iinto first mixture. Beat in egg and flour, mixing thoroughly.
  • Drop small spoonfuls of dough, barely touching, into greased 10 inch pie plate (or 9 x 9 ) lightly sprinled with corn meal.
  • Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle lightly with corn meal.
  • Let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until crusty and golden.
  • Serve hot with butter and jam.
