Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup raisins
  • 1 cup milk, heated to boiling
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp shortening
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup yellow corn meal
  • 1 pkg active dry yeast
  • 3 tbsp warm water
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 1/2 cup flour

Directions
  1. combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl; stir in corn meal. Cool to lukewarm.
  2. Soften yeast in warm water; beat iinto first mixture. Beat in egg and flour, mixing thoroughly.
  3. Drop small spoonfuls of dough, barely touching, into greased 10 inch pie plate (or 9 x 9 ) lightly sprinled with corn meal.
  4. Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle lightly with corn meal.
  5. Let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until crusty and golden.
  7. Serve hot with butter and jam.
