Ranchero Raised Biscuits

- 2/3 cup raisins shopping list
- 1 cup milk, heated to boiling shopping list
- 2 tbsp sugar shopping list
- 3 tbsp shortening shopping list
- 1 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1/2 cup yellow corn meal shopping list
- 1 pkg active dry yeast shopping list
- 3 tbsp warm water shopping list
- 1 egg beaten shopping list
- 2 1/2 cup flour shopping list
How to make it
- combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl; stir in corn meal. Cool to lukewarm.
- Soften yeast in warm water; beat iinto first mixture. Beat in egg and flour, mixing thoroughly.
- Drop small spoonfuls of dough, barely touching, into greased 10 inch pie plate (or 9 x 9 ) lightly sprinled with corn meal.
- Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle lightly with corn meal.
- Let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until crusty and golden.
- Serve hot with butter and jam.
