Aunt Sarahs Boiled Cookies

- 1 stick butter, salted shopping list
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder shopping list
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk, (not condensed) shopping list
- 2 cups granulated sugar shopping list
- 3 cups old fashioned oats, or rolled oats( not quick oats) shopping list
- 1 tsp vanilla extract shopping list
- wax paper shopping list
- candy thermometer shopping list
How to make it
- Add butter, cocoa powder, evaporated milk and sugar to 2-3 quart heavy sauce pan.
- Cook over moderate heat, stirring frequently until smooth.
- Bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches soft candy stage on a candy thermometer. About 225f degrees.
- Remove from heat and add old fashioned oats, 1 tsp vanilla and mix well.
- Drop by tablespoons onto wax paper to cool.
- TIP: Do not make on humid days, as the cookies will not set up.
- They should look glossy when dropped, but will not when cooled.
- Store in air-tight container until gone.
- About 1 hour at my house!
