Applesauce Cake Recipe

Applesauce Cake Recipe
This recipe has been in our family for a while. I remember my Grandma always made it for our family get togethers, now my mother does. Even when we think we've stuffed ourselves somehow we manage to have enough room for a slice of this cake.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup lard
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups thick applesauce (homemade is even yummier)
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Optional (but highly recommended):
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • Chocolate icing

Directions
  1. Mix all together
  2. Bake in slow oven 350 degrees for 1 hour
  3. These are the only instructions my mother gave me! She always uses her angelfood cake pan-therefore so do I.

Sounds like a real keeper. Thanks For sharing

Where do you get lard?

You can use vegetable shortening in place of the lard.

You can read a little about lard at the web address
