Ingredients
  • 1 Pound of pure lard
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 2 Tsp. of anise seed (whole)
  • 2 Eggs beaten
  • 6 cups of flour
  • 3 Tsp. of baking powder
  • 1 Tsp. of salt
  • 1/2 cup of brandy or sweet wine ( I use wine cooler any flavor works)
  • cinnamon for rolling cookies

Directions
  1. Cream the lard, sugar, and anise seed in a large bowl
  2. Add eggs and beat well.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in another large mixing bowl.
  4. Alternately add flour and brandy or choice to creamed mixture until a stiff dough has formed
  5. Knead dough and roll to a ¼ to ½ inch thickness.
  6. Cut into desired shapes.
  7. Bake in an oven preheated to 350°F for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown (it also depends on your oven it varies)
  8. Roll in cinnamon sugar while still hot ( I use a big zip lock bag) and shake it up
  9. Enjoy ! I love to eat them warm

This looks really good! Sounds like an Italian cookie to me....I have one on my site. Pure lard, huh? Sometimes that's the best way to go!
