Ingredients
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 lbs.ground sirloin
  • 1/2 cup soaked bulghur wheat
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 medium raw carrot diced
  • 2 stewed tomatoes diced
  • salt & pepper to taste

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Soak bulgur in cold water 20 minutes, drain
  3. Slightly beat egg & water in mixing bowl
  4. Add ground sirloin
  5. Add bulghur,chopped onion, diced carrot, tomatoes,salt/pepper.
  6. Bake in small loaf pan at 350 F for 60 minutes
  7. Drop temperature to 325 F and bake an additional 30 min.

Bread crumbs was the traditional filler to meat loaf and meat balls it gave these recipes body.
Bulghur wheat does the same thing only it adds a tremendous amount of nutrition at the same time.

Oh Wow,I used to live in Springfield,IL in 1971, and a neighbor had us over for dinner and had this .Her husband was from Iraq. I really loved it but have never seen a recipe for it. Thanks for the great post. It was your comment on your granddaughter that attracted me to your site. My precious granddaughter Chloe is 18years old and I still haven't come down from "Cloud 9"!!!!
