Berries and Dumplings

- 3 pints of berries shopping list
- 2 quarts of water shopping list
- 2 ½ cups sugar shopping list
- 2 cups flour shopping list
- 1 tbs baking powder shopping list
- ½ tsp salt shopping list
- 1 cup milk shopping list
- heavy cream or vanilla ice cream shopping list
How to make it
- Combine the berries, water and sugar in a 4-5 quart pot.
- Boil on medium for 5 minutes, then reduce to simmer.
- Prepare dumplings. .. Start by sifting the flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and slowly pour in milk while stirring gently with a fork to make a loose semisoft dough. Don’t overmix. Gently form the dough into walnut-size balls, handling the dough as little asa possible.
- Drop the dumplings gently into the simmering berry liquid. Cover and simmer til a toothpick inserted into the center of a dumpling comes out clean and dry. (about 25 mins)
- Cool a bit, but serve warm with heavy cream or vanilla ice cream. Mmmmmmmmm….heavenly!
