How to make it

  • Combine the berries, water and sugar in a 4-5 quart pot.
  • Boil on medium for 5 minutes, then reduce to simmer.
  • Prepare dumplings. .. Start by sifting the flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and slowly pour in milk while stirring gently with a fork to make a loose semisoft dough. Don’t overmix. Gently form the dough into walnut-size balls, handling the dough as little asa possible.
  • Drop the dumplings gently into the simmering berry liquid. Cover and simmer til a toothpick inserted into the center of a dumpling comes out clean and dry. (about 25 mins)
  • Cool a bit, but serve warm with heavy cream or vanilla ice cream. Mmmmmmmmm….heavenly!
