Kraut Recipe
This is a very quick way to make tasty kraut-like topping for all those brats and dogs you plan to grill for the Super Bowl.

Ingredients
  • 1 pound green cabbage, thinly sliced (about 8 cups)
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons coarse-grain mustard
  • 2 tablespoons mustard seeds
  • 2 teaspoons white pepper
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

Directions
  1. Place sliced cabbage in a large glass, ceramic or plastic bowl - no metal;
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together vinegars, salt, mustard and mustard seeds, white pepper and sugars, stirring until sugars are dissolved;
  3. Pour over shredded cabbage and toss well;
  4. Cover tightly and refrigerate at least 1 day (very important) before serving;
  5. Will last up to two weeks in the refrigerator.

Never had "Kraut" Gonna give this a try cuz I love, love, love cabbage.......:)


Sorry, but this isn't Kraut, at least in any traditional sense! I might call this a cabbage salad.

Kraut is a fermented cabbage where Lactobacilli result in the sour flavor.


Great way to enhance a hot dog...a different taste from the sour kraut.....love it.....
