These are delicious as a casserole and topped with the mushroom gravy. They are also great as a burger servced on a bun with all the fixins. Great Vegetarian meat substitute. Thanks to my cousin Peggy for recipe.

Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion chopped or minced
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 2 cups rolled oats (I like the quick better)
  • 3/4 teaspoon rubbed sage
  • 2 Tablespoons nutritional yeast (find it a health food store)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup pecan meal
  • For Casserole gravy:
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 can milk

Directions
  1. After oats have absorbed the boiling water, soy sauce, oil and onion, add the garlic, sage, nutritional yeast, well beaten egg, and pecan meal.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Form into patties.
  4. Brown both sides well in hot non-stick skillet sprayed with veg. oil spray.
  5. Cover and cook until firm.
  6. For Casserole:
  7. In small bowl combine mushroom soup and milk.
  8. Put browned patties in baking dish.
  9. Cover with gravy.
  10. Bake at 350 degrees until bubbly and starting to crust around the edges..
  11. Enjoy.
