Boiled Dinner

- 5 medium whole potatoes, peeled shopping list
- 1 to 2 carrots per person, peeled and cut in 3-inch sticks shopping list
- 1 pound turnips peeled and cut into large chunks shopping list
- 2 cups water shopping list
- 2 1/2 pounds corned beef or smoked shoulder ham shopping list
- spice packet from corned beef or 3 bay leaves and 1 clove garlic shopping list
- gravy shopping list
- 1 tablespoon butter shopping list
- 1 1/2 tablespoons flour shopping list
- 2 cups reserved cooking liquid (strain out the spices) shopping list
How to make it
- Layer potatoes, carrots, turnips, water, corned beef or shoulder ham, and spice packet in a slow cooker; cook on high for 5 to 6 hours.
- Serve meat on platter; surround with vegetables; reserve cooking liquid for Gravy. For gravy - melt butter in saucepan and add flour to make a roux. Add the reserved cooking liquid and stir until it thickens. Makes 2 cups of gravy.
