This easy side dish or appetizer was a staple in our summer menu. It will keep in your fridge forever and if you crave something different with your steak or fish, this is the way!

Ingredients
  • 1 head of romaine or similar coarse texture lettuce
  • 2 quarts of water, boiling
  • 2 tbsp kosher salt
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 4-5 tbsp white vinegar
  • 4-5 cloves garlic
  • 2-3 tbsp fresh chopped dill
  • 1/4 cup olive or sunflower oil
  • red pepper flakes, black ground pepper

Directions
  1. Boil water
  2. Rinse lettuce and chop off the root
  3. Add all spices to water, add garlic, oil and vinegar
  4. Mix well and test - marinade should be zesty, moderately sweet and sour
  5. Make corrections if necessary to please your taste buds
  6. -
  7. Submerge lettuce leaves into marinade completely.
  8. Leave to cool and refrigerate for at least 1 hour
  9. -
  10. Serve as a side dish with meat or fish
