Fruity Bread Cobbler Recipe

Fruity Bread Cobbler Recipe
My grandmother made this with homemade bread, but any bread will do. It's a great way to use up any leftover bread with heels and crusts included.

Ingredients
  • 5-6 slices of bread
  • 1 - 29 oz can of peaches, drained
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 stick butter or margarine, melted
  • 2 Tablespoons flour
  • nutmeg

Directions
  1. Use a 8 inch square baking dish, greased or use
  2. non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Pour in drained peaches
  4. Cut bread into strips and spread in a layer over peaches
  5. In small bowl mix together sugar and flour
  6. Then into this mix in egg and butter.
  7. Stir by hand, until well-blended.
  8. Then pour this mixture evenly over bread.
  9. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
  10. Bake 35 to 40 minutes, at 350 degrees or until lightly browned.
  11. Makes 6 servings.
  12. Any canned fruit or pie filling fruit will work. I drain the canned fruit but sometimes when making a big batch I will add a little of the juice back in to keep the cobbler a bit more moist. With pie filling fruit, use as is out of can.
