Chocolate Tea Bread Recipe
I found this recipe years ago in Taste of Home magazine. I get complimemts every time I make it. I love it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 1/4 sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts-optional
  • Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 vanilla extract
  • pinch salt

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease one 9" x 5" loaf pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl,combine
  4. applesauce,shortening,eggs,water,and sugar. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds.
  5. Combine dry ingredients and add to applesauce mixture. Beat on low for 30 seconds. Then,beat on high speed for 2 1/2 minutes.
  6. Scape down sides of bowl as needed.
  7. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts(if using).
  8. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  9. Bake 60 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool in pan for 10 minutes then turn out onto wire rack.
  11. Cool completely.
  12. Combine glaze ingredients and drizzle over bread.
