Bacon Dressing For Lettuce Recipe
BACON DRESSING FOR LETTUCE This is a recipe I obtained from an Estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Manes Estate in Venus, Texas in 1981.

Ingredients
  • 1 small head or large bunch loose leaf lettuce
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1 small cucumber peeled and chopped
  • 5 green onions roots trimmed off then chopped including green tops
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fine ground black pepper

Directions
  1. Fry up bacon until crisp then let cool and crumble up fine.
  2. While bacon is cooking wash lettuce in good water and take out any tough stems or parts.
  3. Tear leaves and put in bowl with chopped cucumber and crumbled bacon.
  4. While bacon drippings are hot add onions and shake then stir in vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper.
  5. Boil and stir for 1 minute then pour over greens and stir then serve immediately.
